How to Integrate a Network Share in Constellio
One recurring need for many organizations is to index network shares in the GID solution of their choice, ensuring that the document lifecycle is properly managed. Additionally, several organizations, particularly government entities, have an obligation to migrate their network shares to other on-premises or cloud platforms.
The recommended approach by the Constellio team is a two-step integration that aims to replace your network share with Constellio Drive:
- Import your network share into Constellio.
- Present Constellio as a new network drive using the Constellio Drive module.
Import your network share into Constellio
The first step involves importing your network share into Constellio. Several tools are available to facilitate this migration:
- Import Client (Recommended Solution)
- REST APIs
- Drag and Drop (for small volumes)
Constellio recommends using the import client, which allows you to import a large batch of data and input metadata during the import process without the need for any development. Following the import, your network share will be organized within Constellio's classification structures, and the document lifecycle will be applied to them.
Present Constellio as a network drive
The Constellio Drive module enables you to display your document vault as a network share. Users accustomed to using the Windows Explorer can continue to work through it, but their documents will be automatically classified within Constellio, and the document lifecycle will be applied.
Benefits
- A functional solution with no development required, suitable for both on-premises and cloud clients.
- Import of content and metadata.
- Allows users to continue working with their familiar tools, such as Windows Explorer for network shares, while applying Constellio's document lifecycle.
- Helps organizations comply with the obligation to migrate network shares.
