System Metadata

System metadata in Constellio is information that is intrinsic to an item, automatically generated and managed by the system. They play a crucial role in organizing, searching, and managing content. This metadata is not directly edited by the user but is calculated according to rules predefined by the system.

Examples of system metadata:

  • Creation date: The date the item was added to the system.
  • Date Last Modified: The date the item was last edited.
  • Author: The user who created or modified the item.
  • Item Type: The category to which the item belongs (document, image, etc.)

1. Edit system metadata

Although most system metadata is automatically generated, some of its display and behavior characteristics can be configured to meet the specific needs of each user.

  • The main customization options are as follows:
  • Wording: Changed the display name of the metadata in the user interface.
  • Display tab: Determining the tab where metadata will be displayed when viewing or editing an item.
  • Configurations:
    • Obligatory: Specifies whether entering this metadata is required when creating or editing an item.
    • Duplicable: Allows or does not duplicate the value of this metadata for multiple items.
    • Activated: Makes metadata visible and usable in searches and displays.
    • Searchable: Allows items to be searched based on the value of that metadata.
    • Sortable: Allows you to sort the results of a search based on this metadata.
    • Advanced Search: Integrates metadata into the advanced search criteria.
    • Highlighting: Highlights occurrences of the value of this metadata in search results.
    • Autocomplete: Suggests values when entering this metadata.
    • Available in the search and tables: Displays metadata in search results and in data tables.
    • Contextual Help: Added a tooltip to explain the meaning and use of metadata.
    • Unique Value : Limits the metadata to a single possible value for all items.
    • Default: Sets a default value that will be automatically assigned to the metadata when a new item is created.
